Teacher Apprenticeship CO

prospective district/school

District Onboardong

There are certain requirements that a district must follow based on the approved apprenticeship. These are the agreements made with the Department of Labor (DOL).

DOL Speak vs. Ed Speak

  • Employer - employing school district or school in the case of a charter school or separate school.
  • Sponsor - designer and executor of apprenticeship programs, providing jobs to apprentices, overseeing training development, and providing hands-on learning and technical instruction for apprentices. This entity assumes full responsibility for the administration and operation of the apprenticeship program.
  • Journeyworker - mentor teacher and/or instructional coach
  • Apprentice - a person who is learning a trade from a skilled employer, having agreed to work for a fixed period at low wages.

Salary – the DOL requires an hourly rate for apprentices - we have divided this out based on a starting teacher apprentice salary. This is the minimum pay for an apprentice teacher, they can be paid at a higher rate. See the example salary schedule.

Hourly Salary Progression

  • Starting Wage to $26.50/hr
  • Upon successful completion of year 1 requirements $27.00/hr
  • Upon completion of the program $27.50/hr
  • Continued pay increases post credit completion leading to BA
  • *If a school district 1st year teacher's salary is below $38,000 accommodation can be made following USDOL requirements

Tuition

Tuition costs are kept low through an agreement with UCCS and the extended studies department. Costs are subject to change - ample notification will be given if this occurs.

  • $450 per listed 3-credit course ($150 per credit hour).
  • 8 courses are required for all K-5 Teacher Apprentices totaling $#3,600 over the course of the apprenticeship.
  • 4 courses per year are required for all 6-12 Teacher Apprentices totaling $1,800/yr over the course of the 2yr apprenticeship.
